Mr Hatch Mukherjee

Mr Hatch Mukherjee is a consultant ophthalmologist and refractive surgeon with fellowship-level training across three distinct subspecialties — a standard achieved by only a small number of ophthalmologists worldwide. He holds the FWCRS (Fellow of the World College of Refractive Surgeons), an invitation-only credential held by a handful of surgeons in the UK, alongside the Royal College of Ophthalmologists CertLRS in laser refractive surgery and the FRCOphth following UK specialist training.

His surgical training took him to some of the world’s most respected centres: fellowship-level refractive training at Emmetropia Eye Clinic, Crete — widely regarded as the birthplace of LASIK — and fellowship-level glaucoma and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) training across Cambridge University Hospitals, Cardiff and King’s College Hospital, London, where he also held a locum consultant post.

Closer to home, he brought treatments to Essex and East Anglian patients that were previously available only in major London centres. He is one of the first surgeons in the UK to perform CAIRS (corneal allogenic intrastromal ring segments) and among the first to offer topography-guided laser specifically for keratoconus. He has contributed over 20 peer-reviewed papers to the international literature and regularly teaches both UK and overseas surgeons in minimally invasive techniques.

Beyond his clinical practice, Mr Mukherjee sits on the Council of the British Society for Refractive Surgery (BSRS) and the Council of McLOSA (Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association) — roles that place him at the centre of the specialty's professional leadership in the UK, contributing to standards, education and the direction of the field.

His practice is based in Colchester, Essex, serving patients from across East Anglia, the wider UK, and internationally. International patients are warmly welcomed — Colchester is under an hour from London and 45 minutes from London Stansted Airport.
