Answer two questions.
Find out which laser procedure could free you from glasses.
What best describes your lifestyle?
This helps indicate which technique may suit your daily activities and commitments.
Freedom from Glasses & Contact Lenses
Laser eye surgery uses a highly precise excimer laser to reshape the cornea — the clear front surface of the eye — correcting short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. The goal is clear, natural vision that frees patients from dependence on glasses or contact lenses.
The procedure is performed as a day case under local anaesthetic drops. You are awake throughout, the eye is completely numb, and each treatment typically takes under 10 minutes per eye. Results are usually noticeable within 24–48 hours.
Short-sightedness (myopia)
Laser treatment reshapes the cornea to reduce its curvature, bringing distant objects into focus. Suitability depends on corneal thickness and overall eye health, assessed at consultation.
Long-sightedness (hyperopia)
The laser steepens the central corneal curvature to improve near and distance focus. A full suitability assessment confirms whether laser is the right approach for your prescription.
Astigmatism
Irregular corneal shape corrected simultaneously — most patients with astigmatism are suitable for laser treatment.

Laser Procedures Offered at The Vision Surgeon
Mr Mukherjee offers both flap-based and flapless laser correction. The most appropriate procedure for you will be confirmed following your suitability assessment and corneal mapping.
LASIK
A thin flap is created on the corneal surface, the laser reshapes the tissue underneath, and the flap is repositioned. Recovery is rapid — most patients see clearly within hours.
- •Rapid visual recovery (hours to days)
- •Minimal discomfort post-operatively
- •Suitable for most prescriptions
- •Requires adequate corneal thickness
TransPRK
A completely flapless, touch-free technique — the laser ablates the surface epithelium and treats the cornea in a single step, with no mechanical contact whatsoever. Mr Mukherjee completed a dedicated fellowship in TransPRK at Emmetropia Eye Institute, Greece.
- •No flap — ideal for thinner corneas
- •Suitable for active lifestyles and contact sports
- •Touch-free laser delivery
- •Slightly longer visual recovery (5–7 days)
LASEK / PRK
Surface laser treatment using a fine alcohol solution to lift the epithelium before treatment. Similar to TransPRK in outcome and recovery, suited to patients who are not candidates for LASIK but prefer a flap-free approach.
- •No flap created
- •Suitable for thin or irregularly shaped corneas
- •Longer recovery than LASIK
- •Same long-term visual outcomes
Mr Mukherjee is fellowship-trained in both LASIK and TransPRK — and will recommend the right option for your eyes.

Suitability for Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is not suitable for everyone. A thorough suitability assessment — including corneal mapping, pachymetry (thickness measurement) and dry eye assessment — is essential before any treatment is planned.
Factors assessed include:
- Age — generally 21+ with a stable prescription for at least two years
- Corneal thickness — must be adequate to safely remove the required tissue
- Corneal shape — topography rules out conditions like keratoconus that make laser unsafe
- Prescription range — most myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism is treatable
- Dry eye — significant dry eye is assessed and managed before treatment
- General health — certain autoimmune conditions may affect candidacy
If laser eye surgery is not suitable for you, Mr Mukherjee may recommend Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) or lens replacement surgery as alternatives.

What to Expect at Every Stage
- Suitability consultation — full corneal mapping, pachymetry, refraction and dry eye assessment. Mr Mukherjee discusses your options and answers all questions.
- On the day — anaesthetic drops are applied. You lie down and look at a fixation light. The laser treatment takes under 10 minutes per eye. There is no discomfort during the procedure.
- Immediately after — LASIK patients notice clearer vision within hours. TransPRK patients experience 3–5 days of surface healing during which vision is blurred.
- Follow-up — you are seen at 1 day (LASIK), 1 week and 1 month post-operatively. Most patients are fully signed off at the 3-month visit.

Not sure laser is right for you?
If laser eye surgery is not suitable — due to a high prescription, thin corneas or other factors — there are excellent alternatives that Mr Mukherjee can discuss at consultation.
Implantable Contact Lens (ICL)
A collamer lens implanted behind the iris — ideal for high prescriptions or thin corneas unsuitable for laser treatment. Removable and reversible.
Lens Replacement (RLE)
Refractive lens exchange removes the natural lens and replaces it with a premium IOL. Addresses both vision correction and presbyopia simultaneously.
Cataract Surgery
